An exceptional vulnerary wound healing plant, Calendula flowers have become well known for their skin and gut healing plant constituents (anti-inflammatory flavonoid quercetin) that have been shown to support the reduction of inflammation and assist in skin repair.

Calendula helps wounds to heal much more rapidly, prevents suppuration and stagnation of fluids, modulates any local inflammation, and prevents bacterial overgrowth and infection. The astringency helps to draw the wound together to heal it more rapidly and prevent excessive scar formation. It is quite specific in treating damp/heat-type wounds, where there is swelling, pus, redness and inflammation.

Evidence-based research and anecdotal evidence suggest that when applied externally, Calendula can reduce signs and symptoms of contact dermatitis, acute inflammation, and 2nd and 3rd-degree burns. Other in vitro uses include antibacterial and antifungal support.

Uses: Topical face and body oil. Repairs scarring, cuts, wounds, nappy rash, acne, contact dermatitis, burns, eczema and skin irritations and soreness.

Hand-made process: Slow solar-infused whole plant oil is macerated for 6-8 weeks, allowing a potent, deep extraction for gentle topical application to the face and body. This year, something has changed with this herbal oil since moving the herb garden to a different land. The herbal oil is deep, rich, orangey-yellow and far more potent than any other herbal oil I’ve made or seen. If you want a potent herbal oil rich in flavonoids and triterpenes, this might be the one.

How Tamara uses: Calendula is one of my deepest allies and has brought sunshine and joy when I grow and harvest it. Since first learning to make infused oils, I have used Calendula oil on my skin and full body for around 5 years.

Contains: Calendula Officinalis (home-grown) infused oil, extra virgin olive oil.
